PLANT CITY (FBC)—“Courageous” executive producer Michael Catt, retired Lt. General William Boykin, evangelist Junior Hill, and Pensacola Pastor Ted Traylor are among a slate of speakers at the 2012 State Evangelism Conference March 25-27 at First Baptist Church of Plant City.
Other keynotes include John Sullivan, executive director-treasurer of the Florida Baptist Convention; Larry Wynn, vice president of the North American Mission Board’s evangelism group; and Danny Forshee, pastor of Great Hills Baptist Church in Austin, Texas.
Florida pastors will share insights into how their congregations effectively implement intentional evangelism strategies during the three-day “Fresh Ideas-Fresh Focus” event. They include Michael Lewis, pastor of the host church; Tommy Green, First
Baptist Church in Brandon; Stephen Rummage, Bell Shoals Baptist Church in Brandon; Alan Floyd, First Baptist Church in Middleburg; Wayne Briant, Southside Baptist Church in Sarasota; and Wailon Haston, First Baptist Church in Starke.
This combination of practical and inspirational brings David Burton, lead strategist for Florida Baptists’ evangelism group, to call the meeting one of the most exciting conferences of the year, “because of the energy and focus it brings to winning people to Christ.”
The purpose of the annual evangelism conference, supported by gifts through the Cooperative Program, is to inform and equip Florida Baptist pastors, staff and laypersons in total church evangelism efforts, Burton said.
“We include pastors from across the nation as well as the state of Florida who understand and are actually doing evangelism in and through their local church ministries. This is a great opportunity for pastors to bring their leadership along with them for inspiration and training to reach their community with the Gospel of Jesus Christ.”
Not only will there be strong preaching, said Burton, “but there will be multiple opportunities to attend seminars covering a multitude of topics that will assist every pastor and person to being better equipped for the responsibilities they have in the local church.”

Other topics include fresh ideas for a “Barnabas” ministry, discipling and Bible study, and prayer.
The inspirational sermons and worship will be highlighted by Boykin, whom Burton called, “one of the most powerful motivational speakers in the country today.” The former Delta Force commander and deputy undersecretary of defense for intelligence is the author of Never Surrender: A Soldier’s Journey to the Crossroads of Faith and Freedom. He is known for his compelling stories of how God has sustained American soldiers in battle.
Boykin will speak during the kick-off worship on Sunday night, along with Sullivan, who has served the Florida Baptist Convention since 1989. The retired general will also lead a Saturday men’s rally.
Since 1989, Catt has been the pastor of Sherwood Baptist Church in Albany, which created Sherwood Pictures and produced the films “Facing the Giants,” “Fireproof” and “Courageous.” As avid missions supporters, the church gave $100,000 from the proceeds of the films to the International Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention. Catt will speak on both Monday and Tuesday.
“The inspiration of the movie “Courageous” will be only a part of what he shares,” said Burton. “He has a real passion for men and will speak directly to pastors, staff and laypeople of their responsibilities in Kingdom work.”
